This past Labor Day weekend the U11G Wall Galaxy were crowned champions in the Inaugural NJSA04 Ultimate Labor Day Tournament. It would be the Galaxy’s first official soccer tournament of the new U11 season, the season when the transition to full-sided play takes place. Wall lost their first game, in a closely contested match which saw the Galaxy go down 1-0, to the NJSA Sting. Wall won their next match beating a team from Long Island, the Sound Beach Spirit, 3-0 sending the Galaxy into the semifinals to meet a solid squad from Eastern PA, the FC Bucks Wildcats. The semifinals saw the Galaxy girls play hard, pressing the attack leading to a one goal advantage at the half. FC Bucks came out in the second half with a strong attack putting the Galaxy on their heels, however, the Galaxy were able to weather the storm and put in a second goal to secure a spot in the finals with a 2-0 win. The finals would be a rematch with the NJSA Sting. As anticipated the match was hotly contested with both sides having their opportunities to go ahead, yet with less than a minute to play the score remained 0-0 and looked destined to go into overtime. After a stoppage due to injury, with only seconds left to play, a direct kick from the half mark taken by Emerson Cooper found its way to Abby Boyan inside the box, Abby was able to turn, have a look and bury the winning goal in the net as time was running out, giving Wall the victory and their first championship of the year.
