Wins Keep Coming as Flying Falcons Start 4-0 for the Season

On a very warm May afternoon, the Flying Falcons took the field in Old Bridge, against the Old Bridge Surge. The Falcons started off strong with Grace getting involved in a close play that nearly netted a goal one minute into the game.  Five minutes in, Julia took a pass from Michele and drilled the ball in for the 1-0 lead. Sophie and Ava played hard the whole first half. While the ball was largely on the Surge’s side of the field, the few times it did cross over, Ani, Rebecca and Shelly did a great job getting the ball back over and down the field for the Falcon offense to keep the Surge’s defense on their toes. Jenny did a great job with several great stops. With three minutes left in the first half, Paige hit a towering shot that lifted over the head of the Surge’s goalie, and sailed into the goal for the 2-1 lead. That’s how the half ended.

After a break that included sitting in the shade, drinking plenty of water, and eating oranges, the Falcons took to the field and picked up right where they left off, playing great soccer. Megan had an excellent head ball. Ani had one great throw-in after another. Fourteen minutes into the second half Paige dribbled past three defenders to shoot the ball into the goal for the 3-1 lead. Later in the half, Rebecca went down and had to be helped off the field with a sore knee. Marissa played hard all game, constantly getting open and working with Sophie to take shots on goal. At one point in the game, after a great stop and kick by Jenny, the Surge’s head coach was heard saying "That goalie can really punt the ball." The game ended with the Falcons victorious and the score 3-2.
