On a warm last day of May, the Falcons took the field in Colts Neck against Penninusula. Since the Falcons had fallen to Pennisula in their last meeting earlier in the season, the Falcons were prepared to play hard to get the win. It was a very physical game through out. Jenny did a great job stopping repeated Pennisula shots from inside the 18 yard line. Twelve minutes into the game, Rebecca took a breakaway and passed the ball to Alex who took a left footed shot, that sailed deep into Pennisula’s goal, for the 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Rebecca took the ball at the mid field line and carried the ball all the way down past multiple defenders to kick the Falcon’s second left footed goal of the game.
Julia played a very physical first half bouncing off Pennisula multiple times, all while protecting the ball. Maggie played hard all half despite taking an elbow to the face early in the game. With the first half nearing the end, Marissa Mancuso got tripped in the penalty box. Coach Tom decided to let Marissa take the penalty kick. Marissa drilled the ball into the left corner of the net for the 3-0 lead, as the first half came to an end.
Shelly and Ani did a great job all game of clearing the ball out of the front of the Falcons goal. Twelve minutes into the game half, Rebecca took a pass from Megan and drilled it into Pennisula’s goal for another left footed, and the fourth, goal of the game and the 4-0 lead. Pennisula fought back, getting a goal late in the game. Rebecca then made a spectacular move to get around a Pennisula defender and score her second goal of the game. With only eight minutes left, Michele took a towering kick from 18 yards out, that sailed over the head of the Pennisula goalie. The Falcons celebrated as the the game ended with a 5-1 victory.
