From May 11 2008 Falcons Hold on to Beat Formerly Unbeaten Toms River
Moms Get an Extra Special Treat on their Big Day

May 11, 2008 Toms River- On a day filled with Mother’s Day happiness, the Flying Falcons delivered a special present for their Moms by beating the formerly unbeaten Toms River Dolphins. The Falcons game out strong and eight minutes into the first half, Marissa Nardelli scored on a break away to give the Falcons an early lead. The Falcons would never relinquish that lead all afternoon. Twelve minutes later, Rebecca Malos hit a towering ball that sailed over the Dolphin goalie’s head from twenty yards out to get the Falcons up 2-0. The first half would end with the Falcons leading 2-1.

The Falcons came out right from the kick off of the second half, ready to play. Sophie Lozowski, who had been dominating Toms River the whole first half, scored an impressive goal only one minute into the second half by charging the Toms River goalie and kicking into the corner of the goal. Rebecca would add another goal for the Falcons bringing the game to 4-1. The Dolphins played tough the entire game. After a penalty kick that just went off the finger tips of Falcon’s goalie Jenny Guerriero, the Falcon’s lead was cut to 4-2. The Dolphins seemed to find their second wind after that goal and score again to cut the Falcon’s lead to 4-3. For 6 long minutes, both teams battled up and down the field, with multiple scoring opportunities on both sides of the field. The game would end with the Falcons on top 4-3. For her outstanding work in stopping so many Dolphin’s attempts, Jenny was named the $10,000,000 player of the game. Rebecca Malos is the Pichichi winner with two goals in the game.
