April 27, 2008 - On a brisk Sunday afternoon, the Flying Falcons took the field for a great match-up against Marlboro’s Dynamite Gold. The team was elated to have Alex Oldock rejoin the team, after important dental work had kept her sidelined for the last game. For these two teams, confusion reigned before kickoff, as both teams arrived wearing white jerseys. Coach Tom made the call, and the Falcons quickly changed to their red jerseys. With all clothing issues resolved, the game started and Wall controlled the ball, right from the start. Rebecca Malos struck first, with a goal only four minutes into the first half. The Falcons continued, dominating on both sides of the ball. Ten minutes later, Maggie Wasacz hit a towering kick over the Marlboro goalie’s head. Emma Korolik, who was worried that a stuffy nose may have impeded her ability to run hard, showed no signs of illness as she sailed up and down the field. The half would end with Wall ahead 2-0.
The Falcons picked up in the second half, right where they left off, controlling the ball with great passing. Rebecca scored the Falcons’ third goal, only six minutes into the second half. After the third score, Sophie Lozowski went into goal replacing Jenny Guerriero, allowing Jenny to come up to play center midfield. For the coaching staff, the highlight of the second half was the team’s use of a drill, during play, that the team had just practiced on Wednesday night. The game ended, with the final score: Wall 3 Marlboro 1.
Afterwards, one quarter of the team attended Mass at St. Rose Church, in uniform, and were acknowledged by Father Brian for their outstanding victory. A generous round of applause was offered up by the congregation.
Coach Tom announced later that evening that Rebecca Malos, with two goals, is the Pichichi Award winner. In addition, because of the team’s hard work, and great effort, every member of the team is the $10,000,000 player of the game!
